Blood Collection

To maximize platelet volume and potency it is essential to utilize the PomPac® tube cooling system and the PomCol® blood draw cooling system. Store both the PomPac® and PomCol® in the refrigerator until the time of surgery.

1. Remove at least four tubes from their packages and place them in the PomPac®. A maximum of 6 tubes can be drawn without needing to flush the line with saline.

2. Begin a blood draw with a 21-gauge blood collection butterfly. Once the needle is inserted, wrap the patient’s arm with the PomCol®.

3. While keeping the resting tubes in the PomPac®, individually remove one tube and begin to fill it. Once the tube is filled place it back in the PomPac®. It is essential that the blood draw happens quickly to prevent fibrin loss.

4. Once all the tubes are filled, they can then be placed into the DuoQuattro® centrifuge. Tubes must be placed parallel to each other to eliminate harmful vibrations.

I-PRF for Facial Aesthetics

I-PRF or Injectible PRF is a Choukroun protocol designed to produce a thinner mixture of unclotted autologous material. The mixture contains platelets, white blood cells, bone morphogenic proteins, stem cells, and skin growth factors.

Used for dentistry for direct injection into soft tissue to aid in healing, I-PRF is also seeing increased use in the field of facial aesthetics.

What Makes I-PRF Unique?

I-PRF is a highly versatile PRF preparation. The compounds produced with this protocol can assist in healing and regeneration.

Because it’s an injectible liquid, the applications are diverse. In the dental office, I-PRF can be injected into areas where bone grafts have been placed to aid in healing and provide beneficial compounds for bone remodeling. Dental implant surgery sites can also be treated with I-PRF to assist in healing and increase the surgical success rate. I-PRF can be used to enhance healing for zirconia implants that are increasingly being used for single-unit implants.

In the field of facial aesthetics, I-PRF has been used for rejuvenation procedures. Although the research on this is still limited, I-PRF has been proven to be safe, thanks to its autologous nature. There are no additional compounds added during the centrifuge process.

Research Supports the Use of I-PRF for its Regenerative Properties

PRF is prepared in a similar way to PRP (Platelet Rich Fibrin), although it is dissimilar in its composition. With PRP, the centrifuge is spun at a much higher rate, so many of the beneficial compounds are separated from the usable product. I-PRF is spun at a low rate so the usable product is higher in its concentration of platelets, stem cells, bone morphogenic proteins, and skin growth factors. Proponents of facial aesthetics have claimed that these compounds can stimulate everything from skin rejuvenation to hair growth.

In the dental office, I-PRF is extremely beneficial. A 2017 study[1] found that I-PRF delivers higher concentrations of growth factors, and can stimulate fibroblast migration. Fibroblasts create the extracellular matrix as well as collagen, making them essential for the regeneration of tissue.

Why I-PRF is Superior to PRP for Hair Restoration

Injectable Platelet-Rich Fibrin (I-PRF) has emerged as a promising advancement in regenerative medicine, particularly in hair restoration, due to several advantages over traditional Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP).

  1. Sustained Release of Growth Factors
